Escalante Skies will be managed privately and not by a for profit corporation. Manager takes no fees for services. All members are equal partners.
Annual dues expected to be $5,400/year. Owners are responsible for cleaning and fueling the boat. Members can trade their times with other members.
The owners would like to purchase 2 wave runners for the partnership. This is expected to cost $26,000 or $5,200/owner in addition to normal dues in 2023.
The partnership currently has a covered slip at Halls Crossing marina and is on a waiting list for a covered slip at Bullfrog. The partnership intends on moving to Bullfrog once a slip is available.
Partners meet once a year to go over expenses. There is a spring cleaning party and every member is expected to send at least one participant to help get the boat ready for the season.
All partners are required to have 5 years of boating experience. Owners are responsible for damage they do to Escalante Skies.
Escalante Skies is fully equipped with all tools, equipment and toys needed for an enjoyable vacation.
Per use and hour meter fees are common among shared ownerships at Lake Powell. While the concept of these fees makes you fee like you pay for what you use, it actually encourages behavior that is harmful to the engines, drive system and environment. We encourage members to use the boat. By using the boat regularly, users become more familiar with system on the boat and the boat experiences fewer maintenance problems because the owners are more experienced. Engine hour fees encourage owners to push the engines harder (at higher RPM) to reduce the hours they are charged. Some drive out on one engine and back on the other putting unnecessary stress on the outdrives. Others will disconnect the hour meters so they are not charged for the time they use. People get creative about getting around these fees.
The Escalante Skies does not charge for engine/generator hours or per use. You are already paying $6+/gallon for fuel and running the boat at slower speeds not only reduces the wear on the engines but also reduces your fuel emissions. Going slower gives you the opportunity to take in the amazing landscape on your way to your destination. Owners are asked to keep the RPM below 2,200 to reduce wear and tear. This philosophy came from the last boat that is still using its 32 year old engines.
We compared two separate trips from Bullfrog Marina to Moqui Canyon. A trip of about 14 miles. At 2,200 RPM a 1990's houseboat used about 45 gallons. That same trip at 1,000 RPM used just under 15 gallons (less gas than a ski boat would use). The Escalante Skies has more fuel efficient engines that emit fewer emissions helping to protect that amazing lake.
